Updates
TCTC Mtg:
1. We elected to hire a lobbyist to
be the watchdog for CTE legislation and work for continuing
weighted funding for CTE programs. This money is coming from TCTC
savings account. The total will be close to $35,000 so when our
board meets in February we need to see if MET could possibly send
a partial donation to TCTC to replenish their savings. His name is
Marty DeLeon.
2. As CTE will come under the radar
this legislative session, please make an effort BEFORE Christmas
to have your DECA kids contact their local representative. Establish
a relationship now so that they know how great CTE programs are
before the legislature goes in to session in January. There is a
lot at stake for us this session.
3. TCTC is considering hosting a CTE
legislative breakfast for representatives in December at the State
Capital. We are hoping that some of the DECA state officers can be
in attendance. Dates soon to follow.
4. Encourage kids to apply for "Best
of Texas" and MET scholarships. Both of these app's will soon
be on the MET website and I am sending Gay a copy to have a link
on the Texas DECA website. Deadlines for MET scholarship are
January 16 and Best of Texas is February 26. Best of Texas Awards
ceremony will be April 20 in Austin.
MET Mtg:
5. Please contact any ME teachers in
your district that have not joined MET. We have a significant
number of teachers that did not renew their membership this year.
Right now we stand at 73 but hope to reach 100 before Christmas. I
will send out a list of those in each district who have already
joined at a later time.
6. I was given the wrong dates on
Summer PDC. The correct dates should be July 27-31 still in
Houston. Start thinking about leading a session now!!!!! We also
need corporate involvement, so District 3, contact anyone you know
to lead a session or sponsor our MET lunch!
7. We decided to have a
"STAR" theme at the MET booth at State DECA. Be thinking
of ways to decorate and plan to come by to help "man"
the booth if you can. If you remember from last year, we paid a
former DECA student to be there at all times and we probably won't
be that fortunate this year.
8. A MET Fall/Winter Newsletter will
be mailed out to all ME teachers to update them on many of the
issues listed above. The newsletter will also encourage ME
teachers to join MET if they have not done so already. The Spring
newsletter will only go out to MET members.
